Wordpress is the créme de la crop of blogging software. It is massively tested, has a wide range of support available and pretty much always has you covered. But I just don't like it. Fortunately there are many other blogging platforms available, the same way we have competing auto manufacturers, different operating systems and diverse selections of mobile phones. Why when given the option between a brand new ford or a classic mini do some of us pick the mini?
One man's trash is another man's treasure states the idiom but it's not really that straight forward. We don't simply like or dislike a food, we have opinions that are far more analogue than a simple on/off switch, it's all about feeling. We cycle and have a feel for the bike, we play tennis and have a feel for the racket. We use a computer and we have a feel for the software.
There are still times when you can just pick the entirely wrong solution. If you commute around a city a hatchback is a much better idea than an SUV despite them both having their merits. You also don't want to consume mass amounts of Indian food if you have well, anything to do the next day, no matter how tasty it may be.
I've ditched wordpress for the still in development habari. It's clean behind the scenes and feels so much lighter than the monolith that wordpress has become. I can imagine many situations when this would be a bad idea, however for small personal blogs and hobbyists it seems great and is definitely heading in the right direction, although in the back of my mind I feel I may one day have to get my hands dirty if it all goes wrong.
